I picked up this frameset for I believe was a deal too good to pass up! I had almost all of the rest of the parts sitting around so I jumped on it. The rear dropouts were tweaked and the wheel wouldn’t sit straight unfortunately but I got it mostly right now after a bit of work. Nice 10 or so miles yesterday but still getting the fit dialed in. So far, I see why people enjoy these so much!

Certainly looks a beautiful place to be riding. 7 speed cassette? Ultradynamico tires? Ortho bar? Great looking bike - but I am very biased.:)

Thank you Richard! Check check and check on the parts! Just got back from a ride and I still wish these had some nicer seatpost options, 2 bolt so I could micro adjust easier. Otherwise it rides great! I meant to take a few pictures but only took one more. Guess I was just enjoying the ride!

Love it! I can’t tell; are you rapid rising?

I wish! I’ve yet to give rapid rise a try. I have been waiting for the Riv derailleur to give it a shot. I had a nice XT 10 speed but it was a no go with the 7 speed and my old microshift shifter for whatever reason. The Shadow style really goes inboard and this cassette steps up too quickly. I also couldn’t get enough cable pull. Unfortunate because I really like clutch derailleurs. The cheapo Atlus is smooth as silk though. I’ll wrap the chainstay soon before I slap it to death!

Your Clem is looking great! That green just shines in those pics!

I had a similar experience with a Shimano clutch derailer on my 7 speed Clem, and ended up swapping to a Sunrace RDM900. For $35, you get the only derailer on the market with a clutch AND the old Shimano pull ratio. It's been fine for me so far, and definitely keeps the chain calmer over bumps. I do still occasionally drop my chain, but I don't have a front derailer or a "1x-specific chainring" to help, so those may also be culprits.

I'd be interested to hear more about the dropouts and how you fixed them. Great looking build as well.

Thank you Nick! I love this color. I wasn’t sure about it in pictures but it looks great in person!

That is a great tip on the derailer, thank you! I remember hear about it on Path Less Pedaled. Nice to know it will work with these cassettes!

As for the dropouts, I’m not really sure what’s up exactly. The tire sits straight between the chainstays but a bit off to the non drive side more than a normal amount. I used my large crescent wrench and slowly bent it until the wheel sat straight and went in and out easier. It isn’t perfect. Neither of my other Riv’s were either. It rides straight and no problems with no hands so it is okay for now. The fork is off slightly as well. My old second hand Clem H was the same to a degree. Hopefully I’ll eventually find someone to really get it straight. If only so I can max out the tires for some trips!

I’ve been able to put about 50 miles on the Clem now and have gotten the fit pretty dialed in. Super fun bike! I decided to order a Pass and Stow rack for it so I’m excited for that to show up in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I can sneak a camping trip in on it after that.

Well done Ryan!

Your Clem is a beaut, thanks for the photos.

I would love to sit under that tree for a spell…

Looks like a real nice place to ride.

Best,

Drew

Great photos and smart build Ryan!

I'm still enjoying my Clem more each time I ride it, and looking forward to the next adventure.

Would love for you to share the general location of the photos! Somewhere in the West, I presume.

Cheers,

Chris

Thank you Drew! I love that spot. Some nice little trails getting there and only a couple miles from the house.

Thanks Chris! I agree. I can say that I think I like it easily as much as the Susie I used to have. Such a comfortable bike! I’m in the Spokane Valley area. Very lucky to have a beautiful river to ride along.
