I fell down the Suntour rabbit hole and stumbled into this site - thought you'd enjoy it: https://www.gringineer.com/

I haven't bought anything, but they have some nice things including NOS Suntour parts, etc and free shipping.

Seems legit and I saw the owner Joel has an LBS in Minnesota and an appreciation for vintage bikes and parts. I emailed him looking for a silver 1" Suntour brake hanger and he was very responsive

Anyone from the area know them?

Jah, nice shop and reputable sellers. You can buy direct, they're also on eBay. Good source for vintage parts.

Max, thank you for posting this link. I enjoyed looking through all of the vintage parts! I may even snag the black 26.8 RaceFace seatpost for my Clem. It will look nice with the black RaceFace Aeffect R crankset I have on order.

Nuke Proof! Ringle! What about Grafton? The site brings back memories. Thanks for posting the link.

For those interested in converting a NORBA-type 26" rigid mtb into a nice all-rounder, the site has some nice possibilities.

Specialized M2 frames: These came out in the very early 1990s, about the same time I got my very nice indeed steel 1990 SJ Comp and even nicer tout Prestige hex-butted-in-every-possible-way 1991 SJ Team. Even in 1991 I sniffed disapprovingly of aluminum, but were the M2 frames good ones?

Oh, and is that 1994 Marin Team Issue titanium or aluminum? Google didn't help.

Patrick,

I built up a M2 SJ about a year ago to be my gravel bike. It has a rigid Soma Fab steel fork with the correct axel to crown distance and a XO-1 cockpit (mustache bar, Riv bar ends and Tektro road levers) connected to XTR v-brakes (the ones with the linkage to keep the pads parallel to the rim). I like it the M2XO-1. Currently it has 26x2.1 gravel kings on it but I'll probably go back to the RH rat trap pass tires. It's hoot to ride with all that rubber, really enjoy it for mixed surface road/gravel rides. Somewhat under-bike if it gets too rocky. I had the frame and fork stripped and powder coated with "intense orange". Sorry for the grainy picture, only one I have on hand.

I should add that I made the front rack which has the VO/Roadrunner mini-rando bag bolted to it. Helps to cover up the big gap between the fork crown and the tire.

Very nice. My 2 steel SJs ('90 Comp and '91 Team) remain my Platonic Archetypes of NORBA-era mtbs: lovely handling, nothing whizz-bang, just entirely docile and obedient with no sluggishness or dartiness (well, until I put 1" tires on the ST Team for road riding). I supposed that the M2s had the same geometry.

Patrick Moore asked: "is that 1994 Marin Team Issue titanium or aluminum?"

He then punctuated his inquiry with: "Google didn't help"

It's fun to try to guess what Patrick Moore typed into Google.  Was it "please help me"?  Did he type "What tubing is that neat Marin on gringineer made of?"

Anyway, I typed "Marin Mountain Bikes 1994 Catalog" into a search engine.  The top hit was (shockingly enough) a PDF of the Marin Mountain Bikes 1994 Catalog.  I flipped through that PDF and read that the 1994 Marin Team Issue is/was Tange Prestige (steel).  Looking at the photos on Gringineer, I find that believable.

I happened upon that site a few weeks ago and fell in the rabbit hole of 80 some pages. Next...next...next ..... how many galldarn pages are there ?!  It's funny how certain things are "valued" from others, fickle as fickle can be.

Patrick, The 1994 Marin frame is made of what the label says it made of. If it was Titanium it surely would have included in the label as that would be feature worthy of noting.

In any kind of search, using quotation around certain specific terms is most helpful. Searching Gibiru for Tange "Ultimate Superlight" Mtb tubing  reveals this reference all about the specifics of the tubing :

Gringineer is legit and Joel is great. I live in Minnesota and have worked with him before. Some advice, if you need something and its not on the website please contact him. His inventory is deep and vast - which makes it hard to put everything on his page. Some good NOS gems too!

I typed in "1994 Marin Team Issue" and hit enter.

Agree about the rabbit hole; fun while falling but would be nice to see something like "You are now on page 732 of 8,000. Enjoy!" Or simply list how many pages there are along with the page you are on.
