I'm attempting to build something that will last me, without breaking the bank entirely. The majority of the build is accounted for between parts bin parts and things on another bike.

A dynamo wheel set is non negotiable but the price is a big consideration. Does anyone have experience with this wheel ( I guess it's sold individually so maybe with these wheels)

Will be mostly used for commuting and riding around NYC, I weigh about 160 so the 36h seems a bit extra, but they aren't available in 32h.

any thoughts?

Looks like a competent wheelset, price is reasonable. You could spend more and get much better wheels, but in NYC it would probably be counterproductive to put some really nice thief bait on any bike. Cheap and cheerful is probably best.

Assuming you're talking about the Dyad wheelset, I picked up a 700c front wheel to set up my Hillborne with a dynamo. It's served me well for about a year now, maybe 2, commuting and around-town riding in Philly. It's my first dynamo wheel so I don't have anything else to compare it to, but it's reliable as far as I can tell.

I had it on a Black Mtn Cycles Monstercross for a while and the vibration was noticeable, but I attributed that to a number of factors unrelated to the hub itself. On my Hillborne, it's been fine.

Thanks for that Velomine link! Killer deal.

Thanks Eric and all for the info...i guess it was the answer I expected, good point about theft bait. Not interested in that by any means.

I have the same front dynamo wheel on my 26" Atlantis. Has been going strong for a few years now, no signs of needing a re-true but it did get a dent in the sidewall. Not sure how it happened so I can't comment if the Dyad is a soft rim or I accidentally hit something, probably the latter. The hub has a slight 'indexed' feeling when the dynamo is on but I think it is just the resistance and you do not notice it when riding. It just seems to be a quality dynamo you do not need to worry about but I will eventually re-lace the rim with a Sun CR18.

I use a Supernova E3 Pro headlight and Supernova E3 tail light. Plenty powerful and has worked during Chicago winters and now California summer and rain season.
