Hi, gang. I am finally selling my 1999 Rivendell Road Custom by Joe Stark with a nice Joe Bell paint job, plus S&S couplers I bought from the list several years ago, and have ridden very little.
To me, this bike represents the best extension of the RB-1, using available brake reach in the late 90s. Its just a classic road bike before Lance’s ascent and MCRBs got dumb, while Rivendell got more all-rounder centric in terms of tire width and longer chainstays. It climbs and descends like a classic lightweight road bike.
One pin-sized paint chip on the top tube, but otherwise this bike is stellar. Max tire size is going to be 32mm, so its not going to cause a redundancy if you have a contemporary Rivendell in the stable.
My best measurements: 58.5cm c-c seat tube (59.5 c-t Rivendell sizing); 59cm c-c top tube with about a 1 degree upslope (nearly level), 18cm headtube, chainstays 43cm.
F/F/Ultegra headset: $1500
Complete (minus saddle, & pedals): $2200
Crankset: Shimano road triple
Brakes: Shimano BR-R600 medium-reach sidepulls
Wheelset: Vintage Bullseye U.S.-made hubs laced to Mavic Open Pro
