To Be Clear….. YES, the ACP has replaced the SR 600, with the 8k600, for the ACP Randonneur 10,000 award, but you can still use a SR 600 that was done earlier for this PBP’s Randonneur 10,000km Award.
Although the ACP no longer recognizes the SR 600 for their Awards, the SR 600 is very much alive, and there are still non ACP Awards associated with them.
I’ve not done a 8k600 yet, but can’t imagine that they will strike my fancy. When traveling to do I ride, in a different State, I like to see as much as possible, the 8k600 allows only 40 hours, which will require much more night riding and less sleep. We did a 60 hour SR600 with out riding in the dark, which was nice, as the scenery on some of these rides is spectacular.
It’s my hope that the SR600km’s grow and prosper, RUSA has a lot of work invested in them, and currently they are by far my favorites type of Rando ride.
