All:

Just purchased a Garmin Varia 515 radar/light unit and am trying to figure out whether how to mount it while also using a Carradice saddlebag.

Advice on the interwebs has been spotty; there are some third party mounts out there, but I haven't seen any Carradice-related examples.

Seems options are 1) mount the radar on the saddle rails and have the bag below (which requires a certain amount of clearance); 2) use a read rack and mount the radar to the back of the rack; or 3) learn to live without the Carradice altogether.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I use option 2 with this light rack from VO.  Works well, the rack provides similar support under the bag to the rail mounted rig Carradice sells with only slightly more weight and I have the option to add a small pannier when errands or touring require more carrying capacity.

I did have to fabricate my own mount for the Varia and a light to attach to the rack.

I've got mine on the seat stay - I use a Dinotte taillight mount together with a k-edge steerer cap garmin mount.

I tried some generic garmin steerer cap mounts, but none of them worked well.     The K-edge one is a bit more expensive, but works well.

If have a similar challenge with my RCT715. I found it was compatible with a Garmin helmet light mount that straps to my helmet (for night time mountain biking).

So with this strap mount, I can secure the strap to the trunk bag, which has a loop meant to attach a reflector, and the tail light mounts to that.

Something like this might do for the rtl515.
