Hi Ramsers,

I'm wondering at the meaning of the potential written out to the part_xxx files when the pre-processor flag OUTPUT_PARTICLE_POTENTIAL is included in the Makefile; is it:
1) The potential induced *only* by the collisionless particles, or
2) The *total* potential (collsionless and hydro components) 'felt' by the particles (or any other massive component in the sim for that matter)?

In other words, is that potential conceptually identical to the potential stored in the grav_xxxx files and can I use it as an estimate of the total potential in my sim?

[ I say 'conceptually' because it is clear to me that even if so, it cannot be value by value, as the particle potential is evaluated at the location of the particles while the other is evaluated at the locations defined by the AMR grid. ]

Cheers

Thor.

I think you are right.
It is the total potential evaluated at the particle’s positions.
