Hello,

afaik multiple datasources for ORM are still not supported in Railo ( https://issues.jboss.org/browse/RAILO-955 ),
because of this we had to buy a ACF license for our last project.

Gert has pointed out that this has to be sponsored since not many users need this feature. The amount is something between 4000-6000 Euro.

@Gert: Could you specify the exact amount?

We would be willing to pay a decent part of it if it would be built into one of the next releases.

Anybody else interested? I don't want to buy another ACF license!!!

Hi Gunnar,

We are not looking at new servers yet, but just to reinforce the point that to build anything using more than 1 datasource, lack of ability to handle multiple datasources using ORM automatically discount Railo as a viable option so we went ahead and got an ACF license. It would help if we could get a rough estimate of how much it would cost from Railo Inc, I am willing to throw in a tiny personal contribution but will be a hard sell for  my employers to cough up some dough for something we are not using (yet).

Regards,
Chong

Hi Chong,

good to hear that's important issue for anybody else, I felt a bit lonely. I recently had a chat with Gert from Railo, he said it will be 4000 Euro.

We will pay the half of it = 2000 Euro if the rest is paid by others. Railo will send an invoice.

Best regards,

Gunnar

Well there are 6 Votes on the item, if we could get a few more corporate donations that would be good. i will repost to the cfaussie (am based in Melbourne, Australia) to see if we can get more notices.

For the record I am willing to part with 100 Euros as a personal contribution. I suppose once there is enough "pledges" you could request payment via paypal or something?

Kickstarter maybe? (only heard stories of it, never really looked at it personally)

I was wondering if there is any progress in getting this issue sponsored by other companies?

Hi Marvin,

I haven't heard anything. Considering the issue has been open since Sep 2010, it is probably fair to say anyone else seem interested in architecting apps that use ORM for more than one datasource probably have to implement hibernate on their own or look else where.

Regards,
Chong

Guys,

good news, I just got yesterday feedback from a customer who is willing to sponsor 50%, we will pay the other 50%

I will contact Railo and see when they will be able to do it

We just agreed to implement it in Railo 4.2 for end of January...

The bug has been fixed in the 4.3 branch, will be available in 4.2 or only in 4.3?

Thanks!

Any word on when this feature will be released?

As I need it to make the switch from ACF to Railo.

afaik it will be included in Railo 5, there is an inofficial build Railo 4.3.0.003 alpha which works pretty well, but I'm not
sure if it is available for public

If you are using Coldbox, you have to make sure that you upgrade to 4 or patch version 3 since there are some small differences in the Java calls

exactly, there is a unofficial Railo 4.3 release that support ORM with multiple datasource, but officially it will be part of George (Railo 5.0).
if you cannot wait for George and can provide you a 4.3 patch.

Sorry atm i can only say ASAP, atm we are still dealing with some problem with OSGi, for example loading new JDBC driver dynamically without having to extend the Manifest of the railo core or OSGi based extensions using that JDBC driver. OSGi is not really make do handle dynamic stuff like this. we will do a release when we have sorted all problem out.
