Hello all,
I have recently exchanged a radiosonde for a Pilotsonde from Poland
just for curiosity purposes. They are very small and basic compared to what we use here in the states. Although they are 403 mhz +/- , AutoRX does not recognize the telemetry for decode. I do not even know which mode this thing transmits on... FM / USB ?
I am guessing FM mode.
All I get with AutoRX are multiple spikes in the signal graph.
I tried Sonde Monitor software, but it is so very vague to specific Sonde for setting up.
Just curious what is being used to track these particular Sonde.
Weblink to this Sonde , also very vague lacking details -

The pilotsondes are a bit of an annoying case.

They are a very simple device, essentially a GPS connected to a radio. As such they do not send any unique identifier, or even a frame counter. This means that trying to assign an ID to them is a pain. Not impossible, but difficult. Essentially all you would have to go off would be the current date and the observed transmit frequency.

So far I haven't added them into auto_rx because it's just too difficult to deal with in a clean manner.

Mark,
Thank you for letting me know the status of this Sonde.
But it is an interesting transmitter and very basic. Fun to study.
I have not had time to look it over carefully to see what the circuit is using but nice conversation piece.
Maybe I will record audio and post it sometime.

You don't have to do it :) I already did it a long time ago, as soon as I found my first one :)

Thanks for that, some good info there.

However, Pilotsondes won't ever be uploaded to SondeHub. This is because there is not enough information present in the telemetry to be able to uniquely identify a pilotsonde. We can't even do the estimated-turn-on-time trick we do with the iMet sondes because there's no sequence number sent.

It *might* be possible to add support into auto_rx itself, and have a local identifier based on time first received and the rx frequency, but the telemetry would never be uploaded to SondeHub. The header for the pilotsondes would need to be added to dft_detect, and I'm unsure how well this will work, since it might clash with other radiosonde types.

Hi,

Like Mark VK5QI wrote, it would be working ( adding detection to dft_detect and make auto_rx compatible, generating ID because there is none from pilotsonde itself ) without uploading to sondehub.

You will find a screen capture from a test at ground level last summer, multiple detection sequences, here in France with an old auto_rx version, pilotsonde are somewhat rares, we had not the chance to decode one in the air yet.

With the multiple detection of the same pilotsonde, at each time a new ID is generated ( like IMets at early times ) you would see what issues appears.

There are currently no plans to add pilotsonde support to auto_rx in the near future.

Hi Vigor,
Do you still have 1.4.1-beta19 software? Could I get these software versions? I would like to test how it works for me.

Note that this modification is based on what is now a very old version of radiosonde_auto_rx.

Hi,

i have adapted this pilotsonde version to the nearest newer version, the 1.5.10 .

@Mark your email @rfhead.net blocks the attachment, same for RS_PL . @Arkadius email seems to be sent.

Not sure what attachment you are referring to.

1.5.10 is also fairly old - we're now on 1.7.1, and there were a lot of changes in the 1.6.0 release to enable support for other SDR types (e.g. Spyserver, and the upcoming KA9Q-radio support).
