I'm happy to see that someone is still making straight keys, but even happier that they're improving the designs, copying the British and Scandinavian designs.

The "Cat Keyer" [sic] -

I call it a key, not a keyer but it has a cute etching of a cat.  Attaches with a TRS plug.

Attaches with terminals for wires, comes with storage box.

The last one looks the best to my eyes.

Have you seen any new or continued Morse keys - especially straight keys - continuing to be made?

These days it's just radio amateur operators who about Morse.  Many former radio officers are active on the amateur radio bands and even take part in radio officer centered activities like the upcoming Maritime Radio Day.

David,

I quite fancied the Cicada one for myself - about GDP140 here in the UK. Trouble is, I'm reluctant to buy anything from China at the moment.

R A Kent Engineers in England are still producing their keys - they do a nice long-lever model which has been in continuous production for over twenty-five years - see  https://www.kent-engineers.com/

Hello Dave and to aal,

Thanks, they are very beatiful keys.

I never used automatic kets it's why till the end I still used  straight morse code keys for QTO/QTP and other small messages.

Thanks for the photos DR.  Interesting designs.

I find that most new keys, straight or otherwise, are made by cottage industries, primarily for the amateur market.  Names like Begali and Vibroplex come to mind.  I have five new keys made by small machinists and 3D printers that fit this mold.  Additionally, some of the big name commercial/government/NGO radio makers offer keys, but I suspect that they are re-branded from some supplier: Barrett comes to mind for this application.

Please keep in mind that every dollar you spend on Chinese made goods

I agree with you Jeff and I'd love to buy American. But I also buy from Italy and from the United Kingdom. I understand that metal plating regulations are easier in Canada than in USA. I heard that was the reason most plating shops closed in USA.
