Dear Pallav and Ted,

Thanks for sharing this essay.
It echoes with the thoughts of many of us, and  one wants to read Part 2 to get a sense of the whole perspective.  If it is already published, can a link be provided, since I have not been able to find it.

Best,
Ritu

1) In theory, the top predators, humans, can live in a mix of economically defined communities which we see, in a small part with some religiously defined communities that interface with the more developed. How simple may never be fully defined based on level of technology and other benefits which can be accepted. And therein lies the question.

2) While the consumptive economy can accept an amount of shift in resource demands ( lower use and increase in use with new knowledge), those at the bottom of the economic level have no upward boundaries.

3) Across the spectrum from excessive consumption to severely restricted access, there is still the sense that planetary resources are limited. Thus the issue is still distribution. A levelized population in both bio/physical resource use and, more importantly socio/economic access and privilege without a benevolent dictator can not be envision much less realized in practice

Dear Ritu,

Thanks much for your response, and I'm glad the article resonated with you. The second part will be published in a week or so. The RED website is a platform for sharing information and ideas pertaining to experiments and explorations taking place on the larger subject of "alternatives" all over the world. While we do have a few core principles, which have arisen out of our mother group, Kalpavriksh's work back in India over the last 40 years, we don't endorse any ideological framework as being representative of our idea of the future on our website. We want to continue to be a platform where rigorous debates and discussions can take place on all relevant issues without being identified as a promoter of one particular ideology or a set of ideas. It is our considered belief that we're still quite far from achieving certainty on one particular weltanschauung, so to say. Consequently, we are neither against "Eco-socialism" nor in favor of "Eco-anarchism". I look forward to the response of our various communities to this article.

Best,

Pallav
