Usually I do qubes-dom0-update from terminal  instead of using the GUI in VM Manager, which goes okey.
Today I've tried the GUI update and after it finished updating, the update icon remains showing in the VM manager and reports the message: Updates Pending!
I've tried to update from terminal with qubes-dom0-update but after the "Checking for dom0 updates..." it will just finish the task and won't report any need to update.
The software updater says There is no network connection available. Please check your connection settings and try again. The details are: cannot refresh cache when offline.

I rebooted the machine and don't know if the updates really got installed, or not.
any info?

Was hoping for an update on this as well as I have the same issue and
Dom0 still shows 'updates pending' in the VM manager.

If update is tried from the terminal, the following is displayed:

$ sudo qubes-dom0-update

Using sys-firewall as UpdateVM to download updates for Dom0; this may
take some time...
Running command on VM: 'sys-firewall'...
Checking for dom0 updates...
Yum command has been deprecated, use dnf instead.
See 'man dnf' and 'man yum2dnf' for more information.

Can someone please explain this and/or provide instructions on how to
update if different than what is in the qubes documentation?

Thanks!

Dom0 still is using Yum but as the default is not DNF it uses yum-deprecated as the command.   The info in red that follows is the warning letting you know that you are using a an old/deprecated cmd that is being phased out and what the new replacement command is.

Using yum-deprecated (qubes-dom0-update) If there is an update it will start showing up after that output about the DNF etc that is in red.   If there is not it will go back to a prompt.

If I understand correctly, after the info in red shows up and there is
no update, it goes back to command prompt?

A couple more questions.
Is it normal that Dom0 in VM Manager still shows 'Updates pending!'
after this even though there is no update? If so, how might I know if
Dom0 has updates available?

Is it possible and/or preferable to use the 'DNF' command to update in
the terminal vice the (qubes-dom0-update) and if so, what exactly would
that be?

Thanks for helping out a non-advanced user!

Hi guys, I know it is not a fix but in order to prevent this update icon the only way I have found is to keep updating dom0 from terminal.
About the command I still use qubes-dom0-update.

cheers

I have found every once in a while the updat icon in vmm hangs. Never looked into it. This is with doing term update. Then eventually it goes away. But it has been awhile since I ha e had that issue. I do all fedora based vm including dom0 via term for update. Early on it seemed the most reliable. Debian the vmm update I have not had issues with.
