https://www.qubes-os.org/hcl/#lenovo_thinkpad-p51-20hjs0bx00_i7-7820hq_k
aby-lake_nvidia

Now running R4.0 (for several months actually)

- -> still needs EFI boot fix
- -> networking hardware now detected out of the box

Hi Sven,

I am almost certainly about to buy https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B075TH6GBT/ , a ThinkPad P51 with an i7-7820HQ -- just like your machine above.

Should be very similarly compatible with Qubes 4.0, I hope.

Are you happy with how your laptop has turned out re: Qubes 4 compatibility?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have been using qubes + thinkpad p51 over an year now and no big problems. Only thing that caused problems was black screen after suspend but that was solved with correct XEN/kernel combination.

My p51 is with xeon processor and double gpu

Thanks Michael, that's encouraging.  So you just tried a few Xen/kernel combos till you found the right one?  Which combo worked?

Thanks again!

I have been wanting a second Qubes system for home use, so I took a look
at this laptop and noticed that it comes with "4G LTE WLAN"
capabilities. Interesting idea, but when googling this group I only
found "issues" with it, and one HCL comment "passed through to sys-net",
but then that Q4.0RC1 install failed for other reasons. There were no
clear signs of success with LTE networking in either qubes-user or
qube-devel groups.

Q: Does does anyone have this Lenovo LTE WLAN working under Qubes 4? As
a separate sys-lte, or in running in the same sys-net? How do you
(auto-)switch between the two interfaces?

Then I started thinking about the complications of the use-case of using
Qubes as a Hot-Spot for networking other devices while on the road. And
how one would even architecturally set that up? I would guess that both
the Wifi (and/or Bluetooth) adapter and the LTE hardware would need to
be contained in the same HVM, with some type of bridge-like software to
control that connectivity. This is just just a mental exercise at this
point, but it would be awesome to hear if anyone had ever done this.

thanks.

Reinstall with R4.0.1 ... this time everything worked out of the box! No workarounds, no change to 'discrete graphics' ... nothing. Just bliss! Awesome work! Thank you Qubes Team!
