Hi,

I tried installing an on-screen keyboard (Onboard) in an AppVM, and found that it was (understandably) unable to insert text into other windows for the same AppVM. If I want an on-screen keyboard, will I need to install it in dom0? I'd rather avoid that...

Thanks,
Phil

It's understandable why you usually want to avoid installing things in
dom0, but in this case it might be the best place for it. There is a
policy file you can edit to allow USB keyboards to work from within an
AppVM (sys-usb). Doesn't seem likely, but it may also permit keyboard
events from Onboard.

I am not sure about the level of support of virtual keyboards.

If you install the keyboard in dom0, it can either:

a. work as a stupid keyboard on screen – shown all the time unless you manually hide it and regardless the content under the keyboard
b. work as a smart keyboard on screen (shown if and only if there is a place to type in and regarding the application) like on Android. This would be limited for dom0 apps, as dom0 has no information about the text fields in AppVMs.

In AppVM, it could work well and smart, at least in theory. But it would be limited to the AppVM, for obvious reason.
