Qubes not Loading

Hi, I have tried installing Qubes on two seperate usb sticks using two different methods (etcher and pendrivelinux. The installation completes successfully, however when I boot Qubes, it shows the startup coding lanuguage and then Qubes will automatically shut down and restart the computer.

How can I fix this so that I can load the OS?

I think that you are not supposed to use one of those make-a-bootable-drive apps.  Instead, as I remember, you just dd the thing onto the usb and plug it in.  See:

When I first tried doing Qubes, I did the same thing.  I installed it using one of the usb writer apps, and couldn't figure out why it didn't work.
