Hello,

I have consistently issues when accessing Google Maps from a DispVM (or VM) with Firefox: the site becomes unresponsive or extremely slow and the CPU usage is between 70 and 99%.

Do other users have a similar experience?

just tried. it was slower in the dvm, but cpu load was consistent. high when it was slow, low when it was fast or idle.

i use chrome in other vms, and that was faster except for refreshes when firefox was faster.

my laptop is a 2010 model maxed out at 8 gigs of ram with 12 vms running, so vim is the only app that runs fast on it.

I found a solution by disabling WebGL. There were errors in the console indicating that the operation executed by the page are slow.

It is possible to set webgl.disable to true in about:config.

Now it's acceptably slow :)

Google Maps is like that everywhere else

I guess maybe it's just the fact that Qubes Manager allow you to see easily how much they are ripping the memory and the processor that made you realize this

Unfortunatelly when I turn off WebGL, everything starts to look pixelated and the image quality sucks. I wish Google allowed my graphics card to work instrad of my CPU. p.s. and yes, I also have 100% CPU load often. Same with YouTube. Google, come on, let graphics cards do the job!

In Qubes the graphics card hardware acceleration is not exposed to the vms for security reasons (https://www.qubes-os.org/faq/#can-i-run-applications-like-games-which-require-hardware-acceleration).
So it is incorrect to blame Google for this.
