Is hibernation supposed to work in HVM mode?

In PV, I tried installing hibernate in debian and it complains saying kernel does not support.

In HVM, I simply put my Kali linux to hibernate. When I started the VM again, it got stuck on "Resuming from hibernation"

Was hibernation supposed to work?
