I'm new to Qubes and yesterday i've installed qubes, everything went fine. When qubes was almost done it asked me for my disk password. So I thought that that would be the passphrase, i entered the passphrase but it was wrong. I litteraly tried evey possible answer. Is there a possibbilitie to delete qubes or something because i'm completely stuck. I can't do something else with my pc....
I hope someone could help, because this is just a new pc and this is already a big problem...
Disk encryption can't stop you from erasing the disk. I don't know how Windows is installed, but if you can get any installer to load and run, it should work fine. See what boot options your BIOS has.
Yes, by the time you see the Qubes "disk password" it is too late. Anything is possible, but it would be a strange BIOS that gave you no way to get into BIOS setup. The answer might be in the motherboard manual or whatever else came with your new computer. Or just randomly try pressing F2, F12, F9, Del, Esc, Tab right after power-on. Usually some of those do things.
I also have a similar issue on raspberry pi where no matter what I do when I reboot ro plug in my kb it goes to uk layout and some keys are diff so in the passwords so I have to use one that works for both.
How did you install Qubes the first time?
I've first tried to get into my BIOS when my pc starts up. Pressed del, f10 and f11 at the beginning but I did not managed to get into my BIOS...
When my pc started up the first thing on my screen I see is the Grub boot menu with:
-Qubes, with Xen hypervisor
-Advanced options for Qubes(with Xen hypervisor)
I can also enter 'e' to edit and press 'c' for a command line.
I hope you can help me further.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, I really appreciate your help!
I'm still trying to figure out how you installed Qubes in the first place...
how did you boot the Qubes USB? Just do the same thing and this time make a diff password. But maybe yes if you have no computer experience windows might be easier for you. Maybe call up Microsoft help line.
rubb you still haven't fully explained how you got Qubes on your machine in the first place.
I mean did you burn a Qubes iso to a usb stick and then boot it on your computer to install qubes? IF so why can't you just boot the same usb stick and install Qubes again?
It sounds like you are doing something wrong. I'm guessing that if it's a new PC that it probably has SSD (Solid State Drive) correct? If that is the case then it just boots up a bit faster than normal hard drives (as is relative to this case). Look up the BIOS or Boot Option keys for your PC online and then as soon as you turn it on press one of those repeatedly.
It is usually just a game of speed at that point.
you can call microsoft to get windows back.
Why is it not possible to boot the usb stick again. What did you do the first time that you can't do now? USB sticks just don't boot themselves by default usually, but if it did the first time it should still now.
In your bios options look for the boot order section, you also might have to enable booting from external disk option.
What is the model of your pc?
hp notebook isn't enough info. what is the exact model number?
I would suggest calling the Microsoft help line.
I have the same issue with booting into BIOS with an SSD. It boots too fast and I miss the prompt half the time.
When you get to the Boot prompt (likely f9) select boot from USB. You'll have option as to where to boot from.
You need to have a bootable USB drive on the USB. You can find the directions online.
If you have any other issues just shoot me an email directly. I'll walk you through any issues. My email is in the list.
yes, but call Microsoft if you want windows back. I might be going back to windows soon too lmao...
