How many CPU threads is recommended for Qubes OS ?

Is 4 enough, or should I go for 8 or more... ?

I have bought the Ryzen 3 3200G, but I could change it for another one with more threads (for example the Ryzen 3400G), if it is recommended as I haven’t unpacked it yet.

Hi, did you get any responses to this? I am looking to build a new(ish)
Qubes computer so clarity on this would be useful.

No, but it seems that Qubes OS 4.0.3 doesn’t work with the Ryzen  3 3200G (I think the last time I tried was in the end of January or in the beginning of February 2020). You will have to try with the 4.1 version that is currently under development. Or choose an older AMD processor or an Intel processor instead. Or wait to use Qubes OS until a stable version of 4.1 comes out.

When it comes to the amount of threads - more is better than less, of cause. And it will probably depend on what you’re going to use the PC for. As I haven’t been able to run Qubes on the PC with the Ryzen 3 3200G CPU yet, I can’t say anything about how well Qubes OS will run with this CPU, for now.

anywhere up from 4 should be fine, 4 cores is more than what most intel laptops had to offer for ages.
WRT the 3200g not working, you mean the iGPU? Kinda surprising to hear, would expect it to be supported by the kernel already. What error were you running into?

No, 4 may be enough, but it wont be enough.. I use the ryzen with the 8 double core and 32ghz ddr4 clocked at 2666 ram SSD 1tb and a Fata1ty 350 board... I can boot windows 10 from a second ssd in about 8 seconds from power up, but qubes takes about 15 seconds, but once up and running, works out great..
