Hi guys, I'm having issues with a fresh Qubes os install.
I'm booting the installer from an usb drive, created(on windows) with rawrite.
The installer boots correctly.
On the disk setup page i've tried different combinations of settings, but nothing seems to work.
After setup is done, the "reboot" button on the bottom right is enabled. After reboot, i'm stuck in BIOS with a "No bootable device found". Both BIOS and UEFI.
Any ideas where to start?
Thank you.

This exact sort of thing happened to me when qubes wasn't the only
partition on the hard drive, regardless of whether the the other
partition was an os. Also, it was not entirely consistent.
Re-formatting and creating partitions under various os's first did or
did not fix the problem. Eventually one combination of qubes-only
worked.

You could boot from live media and try reinstalling grub2.

Switched to sata port 0. BIOS on my laptop was looking for fst disk on the sata controller. So, Qubes works just great now.
Thank you all.
Cheers.

I had the same issue as the OP on a dell laptop. I tried to reinstall grub via the qubes install rescue mode, but it did not have the x86_64-efi target file. This may be the issue with the install not working. I didn't try another live media to restore grub2. I just did a reinstall with it set to BIOS, which is working fine for now.

I should add that I had this issue with 3.1 rc2.

In UEFI mode grub is not used at all, xen.efi is loaded directly.
Example line to configure EFI boot manager would be (assuming /dev/sda
being the disk with Qubes installed):
efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -l '\EFI\qubes\xen.efi' -L Qubes

Anyway if you've managed to get it working in legacy mode, that's fine
:)

Thanks Marek. I'll keep that in mind on the next install to that laptop. I installed Qubes on another machine with UEFI and it booted correctly after install. Still good information to know for next time I try it on the first laptop and there are uefi issues.

I have the same issue, how did you solve it?

Change the disk setting in the bios from RAID to AHCI.

I had the same issue on a Thinkpad x230 where I installed a second hard drive using the m-SATA connector, in the BIOS I switched the first boot disk to be the m-SATA, told Qubes to use both disks and first reboot failed right after grub's menu without any error messages, I reinstall Qubes from scratch changing the boot order to boot on the SATA disk first then m-SATA and it did the trick. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the distribution :)
