i3 | dmenu | unable to open applications

I am testing the i3 windows manager on 4.19.100-1.pvops.qubes.x86_64.
I've installed it according to https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/i3/,
including i3-settings-qubes.
Whenever I invoke dmenu (Mod+d) and start typing in order to search for
an application, dmenu just disappears.
I've observed that behavior also on a freshly installed qubes4 system.

Any thoughts on getting it to work? Thanks!

Hi,

Yes it's about locales. I had this problem and I had to change it to en_US instead of C from what I remember.
