I'm trying to install Qubes 4 on a 2017 MacBook Air via a USB flash drive. I dd'ed the ISO to the drive, restarted the system, held the option key, and selected EFI boot from the flash drive. The screen went black and started scrolling log messages -- that seemed good. Then the screen cleared and started showing more log messages, but barely visible because the screen had become so dim. If I pull the blinds, turn out the lights, and bring my eyeball right up to the screen, I can barely read what it's saying; at this point it's showing a graphical installer.
Pressing the function keys that control brightness under OS X has no effect.
Before all this, I checked the hardware requirements against Intel's webpages about the system's processor and graphics: it seems it should be compatible. This laptop model has no entry on the Qubes hardware compatibility list.
Has anyone had this brightness problem, or have suggestions? All I can see to do next is to try to squint through an install (onto the flash drive) and hope to fix the problem once the install is done.
Thanks,
Darius
