Hi,

I'm sorry if I bother you with such simple questions, I just got Qubes R2B3 installed with Xfce only on a Lenovo T420s, I run the OS for first time and I don't know how to get my appVM connected to wifi connection, I can't see any icon or tray with wifi connection so I don't know where to search to set; if I understand how qubes works, since wifi card is a drive I have to allow it to work under some appVM, isn't it?

Thank you all in advance for any help.

Francesco

I better checked netvm, I see that in Devices there are selected ethernet controller and network controller, but no wifi controller shows up, neither in selecte nor (it seems to me) in available.

does fedora 18 livecd shows your wifi adapter? If no - you should
change your wifi
hardware.

'ifconfig -a' in netvm should show you all available networking devices.

Add NetworkManager to applications allowerd for netvm via management panel.
Run NetworkManager and configure as usual w/ any linux.

Please update template VMs and dom0 accordingly to documentation:
there was a bug
in networking startup - in unputched version user had too wait a
relatively long time
before networking will start in other VMs (except network VM itself),

Alex
There are a similar thread not long ago (in the last 3 weeks). Poke in there. I participated and Marek gave info.

Also check the wiki there is a wiki page on this subject

I checked through management panel, it doesn't show any wireless connection, thus I guess maybe it's a missing drivers problem.

About updating, I downloaded yesterday installation iso from website, so I think it should be already up-to-date.

I'll check the usergroup. About wiki, I searched, I didn't find page on this subject, would you mind to tell me more about the subject? (e.g. configuring wireless drivers?)

Thanks.

Rules of the mailing list require you to quote message text you're
replying above your text.
Please follow.

As about management panel - it is for VMs, not for their connections,
AFAIR, so you
should just add NetworkManager to a list of applications shown in
menu for network VM and use it.

ISO on the site, AFAIK, does NOT contain all the updates available
now, it is generated on release, not on every
patch/update from the team - this is usual work-flow for any other
Linux based distribution.

As about wifi devices - download Fedora18 live cd, boot from it. If it
doesn't show your wifi device - you have
to use another one, supported by Fedora.

I'm not the last resort of information, if I'm wrong in any statement
above - let other users or developers correct me.

Oleg,

I beg pardon for missing mailing list rules.

About updating, since I miss also normal ethernet connection (bad hardware port, this is a used machine) I can't connect and update, so I'll first try to resolve wifi connection issue, then I'll update things.

I thank you so much for your suggestion, it taught to me how to add Apps to VM, thing that I imagined but not knew yet hot to do.

About Fedora18, it's a good suggest, I'll go for it.

Many thanks

You're still not quoting right. Do not use gmail quoting stile: always
expand "..." in gmail web
interface - it will show you correctly quoted text. Point mouse to the
phrase you want to answer
and write there. Like as I do right now.

You're free to skip parts of the quoted text as I just did here.

In case anyone sees this thread as I did and needs to know how to do this do the following:

First, make sure your netvm has devices assigned to it. Mine didn't. To add devices, write down the device id that is located in the vm settings next to the device. Your wireless card is most likely listed as "Network controller". The ID for mine was 04:00.0. Yours might be different.

Once you have the ID shutdown the netvm and then launch Konsole for dom0. Do not sudo up to root. Add the device to the netvm by doing the following:

qvm-pci -a name-of-your-net-vm 04:00.0

Once you have done that you can start the netvm backup. You will need to be able to add your wireless network connection so right-click on your netvm and choose VM Settings. Under the Applications tab you need to add the "Network Connections" application. Once you do that "Network Connections" will show up in the "Start" menu under the name of your netvm.

Hope this helps!

I just downloaded qubes 3.2 (my guess). Had a terrible time installing on a Toshiba Satellite.

Now I can't connect to the Internet via WiFi. Found this post.

I tried rfkill list all, with command not found. Not sure that would apply to this version any way.

The other instructions mentioned above weren't helpful, I didn't see netvm, but I did see sys-net on Qubes VM Manager.

Would appreciate any help with this.

Can't tell you how I solved this, but I did. All's good now.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me with suggestions. I had wondered why no one had posted replies instead...
