Hi,

I'd like to blank my screen (with dpms off) without having to enter a password if I want to use it shortly after.

After several tries with xscreensaver configuration on qubes and Debian without qubes, I discovered that whatever the configuration of xscreensaver is, a dpms off locks the screen on qubes.

A simple "xset dpms force off" demonstrates it.

How can I disable it?

My ideal configuration for my standalone home computer would be "dpms after 10 minutes" and "lock after 120 minutes".

I'd like to know this too. Even if I try to interrupt it while it's still
doing the screen fade, it ignores me and continues to lock. Kind of
annoying.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of answer you are looking for;

xscreensaver is a really really old application and there are plenty of
better ones, some likely do have the kind of features you and awod are
looking for.

I personally use kde which does this all.
It has a "lock automatically (x min)" separate from
"require password after locking (x seconds)"
and "dim screen", "turn off screen" etc are all separately configurable.

And, yes, on Q4 I run kde in dom0.

These settings are also separately configurables with xscreensaver. :-)

On my Debian box (without Qubes) it works as expected, so I suspect a Qubes-specific or xfce-specific issue ("bug" of "feature"?).

Replacing xscreensaver could be an option, but I like this old and simple program. It does the job without depending on big libs.
