Hi all,

I am using a Laptop with an Intel I7-5600U CPU (Dell Latitude e7450) and
I'm facing the following problem.

In case a VM gets high CPU load, e.g. during compilation, windows are
not rendered properly. It starts with some black line, which get more
and more, until all windows of the VM are almost black - actually it's
not totally black, it looks more like some image noise. Like a classic
TV not getting a proper signal :-D This is related to windows of
this particular VM only. All other windows keep clean.
When resizing a window, the noise disappears shortly and then reappears
again immediately.

I am using Qubes RC 3.0 / KDE. (XFCE cannot be used, because window
rendering is exceedingly slow, e.g. when moving a window).

Does anybody have a solution for the issue? I don't want to resize my
windows all the time when compiling something :-D

Thanks a lot!
Ludwig

Is this happens only in Debian-based VMs?
This is known problem, but (AFAIK) without a solution yet...

Yes, it's on Debian based VMs.
If there's no solution, yet I'll wait :-D

Thanks for reply!

I have an idea :)
Try to disable swap in the VM and let me know if that helps.

Hrmm. I thought I fixed this a few months back.  I used to experience that problem all the time, but have not experienced it since I made changes to the Debian templates in January, although I also do run some special configurations related to UI.  If you are good with installing packages with missing dependencies I have 3 qubes packages you could test out in a cloned AppVM. The packages are only missing since they are not available via apt-get yet so you need to run apt-get -f install after a dpkg -i.

I did start to experience this in Fedora-21 yesterday though after upgrading Fedora-20 to Fedora-21.

What video hardware are you using. I am using on-board Intel.

I reproduced this in 'big' UI apps - mainly Iceweasel, but sometimes
Icedove, even Terminal (on debian VMs only)

Since disabling swap in the Iceweasel VM, I haven't reproduced it.

I'll let you know if it occurs again.

Thanks Marek
