Hi all,

I was preparing Qubes 3.2.1[1] and hit a problem, the same as always -
installation image do not fit on DVD:

check if actual iso size 4819255296 fits 4700372992: fail

Qubes 3.2 was about 4GB so some space left there, but since then we've
updated all the templates:
- Debian 8 -> 9 (530MB -> 580MB)
- Fedora 23 -> 28 (stays at 1.2GB)
- Whonix gw 13 -> 14 (520MB -> 710MB)
- Whonix ws 13 -> 14 (700MB -> 870MB)

All the sizes are about compressed package (size used on installation
image).

Any propositions what can be removed from any of those, to save ~120MB
of compressed data?
The alternative would be releasing Qubes 3.2.1 as is, adding a note that
single-layer DVD is not enough for installation. Since this release is
looong overdue, I tend to this option, but want to hear opinions of
others first.

I wouldn't object to it being released as-is.

Hi all,

I would propose two images: one minimal one with Fedora only (without Debian or Whonix), and the other with everything.

Being able to install from DVD is important, because it's much easier to audit read-only media.

Kind regards,
Andrew

I could see dropping debian-9 from the "minimal" DVD but think it's
important to retain Whonix so Qubes can be updated out of the box without
leakage. In most cases it won't be an issue though, I think dual-layer
burner support is better than it used to be...

I too think this is fine, most people use usbsticks anyway.

(And those few who like an read-only media will have to either use 3.0
or 4.0 images...)

Good point... paranoid people (like me) who care about read-only media are using 4.0 already.

I withdraw my suggestion for 3.2.
