Anyone got info on how to decode the alloy identification tag on Ford BC cvh gearboxes? - my web searching  has not found anything definitive to date - trying to find vehicle applications to determine gear ratios/final drive ratio etc.

I have a 5 spd BC with tag:-

91WT MB

F0B0 K30

I've never found anybody who can decode the Tag, not even my tame Ford dealer.

91 means the year it was first used so it's from a Mk3 Fiesta or Mk4 or 5 Escort.

You can measure the gear ratios and final drive by turning the input shaft and counting the output shaft revolutions.
Some work with a spreadsheet should let you match the ratios.

If you take some pictures of it i can tell you more about what car it came from.
It might be a B5 gearbox rather than a BC

Hi John.

This doesn't help much with your tag, but this website does give some ratio information based on vehicle model and year.

Hope this helps

It's strange there is no decode info anywhere - it was clearly put there for a reason & means something ;-) - I may try Ford as well to see if I can get any info.

I will take some photos and post them up - it's still in the saloon at present so may not be very clear.

The bellhousing looks to be earlier than 91 - casting code is 87 TT 7F 096 AB XVI/1.

The car (factory built saloon Q080 2 litre cvh) seems to have quite a few parts from multiple donors. Currently trying to identify stuff before refurbing or deciding on engine/box swap.

Hi Dave

Thanks - already explored that site - pretty much been all over the web sites/forums for Fiesta, XR2 XR3, Escort, Zetec..... etc. A Jim said you can work out the ratios by spiining the engine/wheels - car will be on the ramps this week so may just have to do this. Still surprised that there is no reference source for a common Ford box.
