The quantum towbar is a modified MK1/2 ford fiesta .the longitudinal bar is lengthened and bolts through the  back of the rear axle tunnel. There are two bolts holding the back part just above the ball and they bolt through a bar across the inside width of the boot which is bolted through the boot floor in four places. Item 282694164669 on eBay

Russ,

It’s not the same as the 2+2 towbar.

I found this pic in the saloon manual. It’s not the best but you can see how it has been extended so it can bolt onto the axel hump.

Aufer Thanks for quick reply. Do you have a picture of it ?  Does it look even remotely like the image Chris  G posted ? I believe both the saloon & 2+2 are modified Fiesta MK2.
Chris G Thanks for the image.

I took 5 photos of the towbar on my saloon and tried to send them yesterday, but the file size was too big, so unsuccessful. I’ll send them via WETRANSFER, which will then make them dowloadable for a period (7 days IIRC)

Please ignore the rust (which shows up more in the photos!) I’ll have to paint it again. NB there are 4 bolts across the rear panel, these attach the towbar and a strip of steel (1.5 inches from memory by about 4mm thick) which is on the inside of the panel to spread the load. The 2 outermost bolts are visible near the ends of and under the number plate.  There  is a vertical strip of steel welded to the end of the towbar extension which is bolter to the vertical GRP behind the axle (as per diagram in an earlier note). Russ, let me know if you need any more photos.

You need a picture of the inside of the boot  , there is a steel strengthening piece longer than the number plate in the boot that spreads the load along the rear panel. You can just see the 4 bolts that hold it in place just under the number plate.

Picked up new tow bar from ADS Fabrications, looks well made. Ordered thinking I would not have time do a mock up and get one made locally before Stoneleigh, turns out i have more than enough time, it does look neat though and less "agricultural" than i would have made.

Is the fuel gauge still working ok ?
If thats stopped working as well then it could be the voltage regulator on the back of the instrument cluster.

The fuel gauge is since a month indeed faulty too = mostly on full even when empty

Where do I find the voltage regulator on the back?
Is it still available or is there a substitute?

Hi Hans

Those are opposite symptoms - fuel gauge shorted to earth (intermittently), temp gauge open circuit. If there is a single cause a possibility (not uncommon) is that the wiring loom has been chafing on the steering column bracket. That's something that should be checked as a matter of urgency to nip any more serious problems in the bud. By the way, if you haven't done it before, removing the instrument cluster can seem quite daunting but it's actually quite easy.

Best regards
Bill

They look like this (Earlier version) or this (solid state version).

Mounted on the rear of the instrument cluster.
You can measure the output to the common connection of the 2 gauges, should be 10v i think though if it’s the early type regulator you may see a pulsing voltage.

But, as Bill says, the fuel gauge going to full is the opposite effect to the temperature gauge.
It could be an earthing issue on the rear of the cluster.
