Looking for information on Quantum Saloon

Hello I used to own a 2+2 a few years back which ended up being sold due to growing family.

I've been in the position now that I can now have a hobby car again & bought a classic car to mess with.

Looking through car adverts came across a listing for a quantum saloon.

The 2+2 is one of a few cars I really regretted selling & really do miss the car.

The saloon is red with a chassis number of Q144

The car is at the other end of the country to me so if I bought the car it would be bought via socially distancing & transported.

There is very little history of the car on mot history but from the photos it does look quite tidy.

Is the car known within the club?

You mention this car is at the other end of the country.

Are you going to pick this car up or is the seller going to arrange for it to be delivered ?

 

If they are delivering it be careful, i know somebody who was scammed out of 10K when they bought a camper at the other end of the country without actually seeing it.

The seller was very helpful and supposedly arranged shipping and everything.

They paid the seller by bank transfer and then heard nothing, it was a scam, the pictures came from the internet and the “seller” never had a camper.

The bank was no help as it was a proper payment.

thats a name I remember from when I owned my 2+2.

Nice to see some familiar names appearing despite it being nearly 10 years since I stupidly sold my 2+2.

The car is on the south coast & no I wont be able to pick it up so it will be transported to me.

I have spoken with the seller & have seen photos of the v5c with the name and address of the seller visible.

I have arranged for the car to be delivered with it hopefully arriving sometime in the next week.

I have just checked on the is it taxed website which shows the date the last v5c was issued.

It shows as 02/02/21 which is the day I decided to buy the car.

Firstly, welcome back to Q ownership!

I've had a look through my Historian records but don't have anything on that chassis number.

I have some info on two red saloons without chassis numbers though. One is a diesel and the other is a 1600 CVH with the reg. ending in EGU

Thanks for the info. It happens the reg does end in EGU so I know have it confirmed its 1600 cvh.

Thats what it says on the V5c that dropped through the door this morning.

Any other information you can tell me about the car?

Is getting quite exciting at the moment as the car was picked up by the transporter this morning so is on its way up the country.

Delivery is going to happen some time tomorrow if all goes to plan.

144 was a comprehensive kit delivered on July 7th 1993, in post office red gelcoat with an electric sunroof fitted .

Donor vehicle was an xr2 mk2 reg no E637 EGU

Looks like Rob has put the information together quite well.

It also means I have a serial number and production date to go into the Historian records.

The only thing I can add is that I spotted the car in March 2020 being advertised on E-Bay for £1750. Has it still got the white wheels?

The saloon in now in my possession as it was delivered this morning.

The wheels currently fitted are ford 5 spoke type wheels that have been painted black.

Wont be staying black for long but got other things to address first.

Could do with finding a copy of the build manual to make a start.

It was listed for sale on ebay/facebook over the last few weeks as that’s where I came across the car.

You don’t have any details of who had it listed in March 2020 do you?

Not sure how long the guy I bought it from has owned it but he has spent some money on a few things.

It wasn’t a planned purchase but after seeing in the flesh I am very happy with the car just need to sort out a few of its issues and get a MOT on it.

Put it this way it wont be getting sold again for some time/if ever as I regret letting my 2+2 go and the saloon reminds me so much of my old 2+2.

Awaiting a membership number as paid my club fee and forwarded scans of the membership form to Jan.

Thank you for the photos. They show where its picked up the small amount of damage to the nose and sill sections at the lower edge as all intact in the photo with white wheels.

Also shows what has been worked on recently too.

 

Getting a list of part together that I know it needs,

Need to find out where the gas struts for the boot come from as they are past their best and don’t hold the boot open anymore.

Assuming the old struts worked when they were new, if they have markings on them showing the Newtons, it may be just a case of measuring compressed length and free length – An online search of suppliers should show up something. Low strength ones are often used for tractor windows, office equipment etc.

You send it back to them and they recharge it.

I know some of the Quantum supplied ones were like that so maybe Pauls ones could just be recharged.

Unscrew the ball fitting from the end of the body of the strut and there may be a valve under it, like a tyre valve.

I’ve not bought gas struts from them yet (i need some for my saloon) but have bought quite a bit of their workshop equipment.

A lot of the after market gas struts are supplied with maximum pressure and have a valve in the end which lets you release the gas a little at a time until it's right for your application.
