In the QOC FAQ there looks like there are two possible red colour codes - either Scott Bader 5312 Post Office Red or 5352 Poppy. It's not clear from the FAQ  to which Quantum models each is applicable.

My saloon is what I would call the "bright red" (most red saloons I have seen seem to be this shade). Has anyone done red gel coat repairs and confirm correct code.

My injured H4 has a sticker saying “protec red 8205” so perhaps that another red to consider

When I tried to match the Oxford Blue of my saloon (to pigment the gelcoat for my Quantumsleep caravan) I had a small pot of the original blue with a number on it. I tried to match to available pigments, and even tried to get info from Quantum Moulding, with no luck – nobody seemed to recognize the number! There appear to be only 2 suppliers of pigment (Llewelyn  Ryland and Scott Bader), so your best chance may be to send each of them a small sample to see if they can match it. The other factor is that the pigments all fade over time.

Seems like I will have to experiment with getting correct red pigemnt. I was rather hoping there would be some factory records surviving noting the gel coat colour on each kit sold/built - but apparently not.

@ Martin
Scott Bader still list Oxford Blue pigment code 1187 - did this not match your Oxford Blue saloon?

Steve

I have been in touch with Rob at QSC already - he is in the process of getting a copy together of file/records for my car (it was a factory build). He did comment however that he thought it unlikely the gel coat colour code would be recorded.

The colour code on my H4 is on a sticker on the inside of the bumpers, also on a sticker on the underside of the boot lid, I would also suspect there will be stickers inside the doors, possibly a starting point for a search.

That’s what I ended up with and it was VERY dark – I subsequently painted the caravan with an Oxford blue which was closer to the car colour. Oxford Blue (I since found out) is like British Racing Green ….. there are many different versions 😊. The only way is to know what RAL or BS number it is, and even then it’s hit or miss.

Hi John
We have a very comprehensive record for your car(080) (50+ pages) this will take some time to scan and send to you however records do show that the car was originally post office red which i believe to be a scott bader colour and one we stock but.....the car appears to have been painted at a discount price due to discolouration and fading after 18 months ,this is recorded as mazda red but without any reference to a paint code
Regards rob QSC

I have a very good car paint and body store nearby. They can scan your existing colour and if you have a panel you can leave with them they will then refine the scan by using spray samples to match.
I have used this a couple of times and even with just the scan got perfect results. They even did this just got s single mixed aerosol.

Am sure you must have s similar store in the area.

My saloon was either 98 or 99 When I had that resprayed I am sure we selected  Post Office Red to be as close as possible to the original gel coat colour.
