I tried to respond to Julian’s most recent note but kept getting unsent message errors. So have started a new note.....

Hi Julian. If (as an example) the chassis is jacked up a little at the front and the door position changes that will suggest the chassis is ‘bending’ -probably due to tube(s) rusting through. Without seeing the set-up my ‘guidance’ may be questionable as I have very little (i.e. -no) knowledge of how visible (or accessible for jacking) the H4 chassis is. As an example (which doesn’t help at all 😊) at the most recent MOT of my Q saloon the tester said “that body must be good as I can still open and shut the door ok even with one corner jacked”. Again, I may be entirely incorrect, but I suspect the doors hinge off the chassis/bulkhead steel structure (rather than GRP body) which would suggest your conclusion of chassis corrosion is accurate – unless the door hinge is very worn or loose which I’m confident you would have already identified. Many thanks. Ill give it a go.  I'm told the chassis is sealed in the tub. The doors hang from a vertical steel member. But ill see what happens.

Julian.

Hi
There is a join between the top and bottom half along the sill line which is foam filled, we checked by removing the rubber strip and the cutting a section of the lower sill out to inspect the suspect area, if the chassis is good or repairable, the section can be re-instated after and either a gel repair or painted to re finish.
ours was rotted right through the round tube which is 3 or 4" diameter from memory.
