I am refurbing old red saloon Q080.
If there are any previous owners who may still be lurking here I would
be ineterested in any info you can provide from your ownership e.g.
problems, mods, fixes etc. - even minor stuff (e.g heater matrix
replaced, head gasket blown, electrics.. ) may save me some work/time.
AFAIK the car was factory built late 1991/92. It has an age related
plate B reg 1985 - not sure if that was the XR2 donor reg or just an age
assigned reg from DVLA. It is registered as a Quantum 2 ltr - 1997cc is
shown on V5 although I suspsect it is more likely 1900 - 1950. The big
bore cvh engine was done by Power Engineering who supplied it as a block
assembly to Passey & Porter in Weston Super Mare who I guess completed
the engine build.
Looking over the engine bay I can see parts which would not have come
from a 1985 XR2 donor e.g it has the later type breakerless type
distributor/ignition, later Weber 28/32 TLDM carb... the gearbox I
suspect is alslo non XR2 but I cannoit find any id tag on it at the moment.
The car actually runs Ok although rather hot. The brakes are bad by
modern standards ;-). Lot of water ingress leaks - sunroof is being
removed and blanked off.
I have not decided yet but may well end up swapping the cvh motor for a
2 litre zetec with diy efi. Some of the big bore cvh engine conversions
had a bad reputation for unreliability (cracked blocks/decks/head
gaskets..) but Power Engineering tell me the only problem thay ever had
with their conversion was people running turbos with silly boost level.
Feel free to pm me with any info.
John
