I've had the engine and gearbox out of my Xtreme to get the bottom end rebuilt. While the engine was away I cleaned the gearbox, and replaced the oil seal. With the gearbox bell housing back in place I thought I would check gear selection before putting it back on the engine and that is where my worry has started.

I can select all 5 forward gears, but it does not want to go into reverse. The movement feels fine and I can push the lever down and right, but even with a good shove it will not go into reverse.

Is there anything that I could have disturbed when removing the bell housing?

Regards,
Steve

D'oh! What an idiot! Clearly too lol away from the car. I was looking for reverse below 5th, rather than past 1st/2nd.

Regards,
Steve

Well at least you were pushing it down! When I took my Rickman for MOT 3 years ago the tester didn’t push it down (just across) and tried so hard to get it into gear that he broke the (very long ) gear lever!

After I removed the lever, he welded it and the (MIG) weld only lasted 3 days. He also failed the car

Fast forward 6 months, and his colleague shouted and swore that the Quantum door didn’t open very far, flung it open and leant so hard on the switch panel when he got out of the car, that he broke it the switch panel. Unfortunately I didn’t spot the breakage before driving a few miles – the spring limiter within the hinge was also broken (found weeks later). I don’t take my cars to that garage any more.
