Hi there

Running QLab 4.6.12 on a M1 Mac Mini Monterey 12.4. I’ve got a stereo audio cue and have added an instance of Valhalla Vintage as an Audio Effect. The cue is quite short and when played the reverb tail abruptly ends with the end of the cue. Is this a bug or by design, and if so is there a workaround to allow the reverb tail to continue?

Thank you so much!

All my best,
Roly (they/them)

This is most likely because the reverb is not reporting its tail time correctly. With a reverb that does the audio cue the reverb is added to won’t stop until the end of the tail time, this is indicated with the tail icon that looks like a graph.

Your options are

Edit the audio to insert a few seconds of silence at the end of the cue.

Put the reverb in an unused cue output ( or pair)  and matrix that cue output (or pair)  to the required audio device outputs. You can then use the slider in the audio cue for that cue output (or pair) as a reverb send.

Option 3, use a reverb that behaves properly.

Really informative as ever - thank you Mic! Yes I have a few fx sends set up already but not quite right for this use. Back to MatrixVerb it is for that cue…

Thanks!

Actually I've just looked at this again, and found an even simpler method. (I have also confirmedValhalla doesn't report any tail time.)

All you need to do is add a post wait time, to the audio cue  it doesn't need to have an auto continue.

Oh wow - yes can confirm that’s solved it my end also. Great trick!

Have emailed Valhalla support too to see if they might address their end so fingers crossed.

Thanks Mic!

Great

I thought I was going mad for a minute, as I am sure QLab didn't do that when I wrote the Plug In Primer chapter of the QLab cook book.

It didn't.

This highly desirable behaviour is a byproduct of this revision in QLab 4.2 (March 2018), so I have spent the last 4 years inserting silence on the end of some cues to get round this with other plugins, when there was no need!

FIXED: Cues that are in the ghostly tail-out state (when the file has finished playback but something like an audio reverb is still rendering) will now behave better.

P.S All Valhalla reverbs are deficient  when it  comes to tail time reporting.

Hi, old thread but still problems with Valhalla plugins. I have worked my way around this problem by adding pause cue to end of audio cues, but this does not work anymore. Tried also the post wait method, with same results.

Creating cue output (aux) works but it´s painfully slow with old workspace that has been running nicely, and then your going to qiq and you have lost tail of all reverb cues xD

Running M1 Mac, sequoia 15.0.1 and Qlab 5.4.6

Regards.
