Bitfocus is already working on support and has the knobs supported already IIRC.  The touchscreen I think they mentioned being a bit weird, but based off this I am intending to purchase one myself soon.

I sent some questions to themlast week, answered.
Thought that having the buttons closer than knobs, and the ability to lie it flat would work better....

Hey Jim,

Thanks for contacting Elgato Support.

I understand you have some questions about the Elgato Stream Deck Plus. I'll be happy to help!

Regarding the MIDI setups, could you let me know exactly how you would want to use the device?

The Stream Deck Plus is unable to lie flat, due to the cable being in the way.

As far as inverting the device to use it upside down, that is something that I will have to look into and get back to you after talking to our Technical Team.

When resting a finger on the buttons, there is enough resistance that the buttons shouldn't press unless you want them to. Keep in mind that this is just through personal testing, but the results should be the same if you were to try this as well.

Let me know if you have any other questions while I look into inverting the device.

Best,

Jacob U.

I have one of these on my desk right now and will spend some time this holiday season playing around with it and seeing what I can make it do.

Best

Another update from Elgato.
Jim

Thanks for your patience while I looked into whether the Stream Deck Plus can be used inverted.
As it turns out, this isn't something that is currently possible to do with that device. However, it is a great idea for a feature. I will forward this through the appropriate channels, so it could possibly be implemented in future releases!

Sam ... Any insights on if it worked well?

Funny you should ask; I was just working with it yesterday.

For those just joining this thread, we’re talking about the Stream Deck + which has eight buttons, a tiny touch screen, and four rotary encoders.

I can say the whole thing feels nice and I like using it.

Support for the rotary encoders is very poor. There’s a third party MIDI plugin which is very awkward to set up, but works fairly well. I configured one knob to send CC 1 on a counter-clockwise turn and CC 2 on a clockwise turn, then assigned those message to “playhead previous” and “playhead next” in QLab. Works very nicely.

I generally prefer Companion to Stream Deck’s own software, but Companion’s support of the knobs is very limited, and the transmission speeds of messages from the knobs seems to be very slow.

In summary, my assessment is lukewarm.

I now have a Loupedeck Live on the way… the quest for an ideal QLab programming device continues!

You’re right, time for an update!

Here are the things I really like about the Loupedeck Live:

  • Build quality
  • Number of controls
  • Feel of knobs

Here are the things I really do not like about the Loupedeck Live:

  • Programming software is clunky.
  • The 12 buttons in the middle are touch-sensitive, not actual pushbuttons
  • Crucially: though Bitfocus Companion supports it pretty well, the update speed for the knobs is atrocious.

Despite the clunky software, I’m working on a QLab programming template which I will share when it’s ready. I may also build a Companion template if I can figure out how to make the knobs work better.

If the middle buttons were real buttons, I would forget about the software.

More as I learn it.

Chataigne has a module for loupdeck, that might be something to try.
