Hi

Just wondering whether there is any immediate plans to add NDI support into Qlab? Have a few projects that would like to use Qlab for but can't without NDI support, so I am forced into using other apps that do support NDI. I am a big fan of Qlab and long time user and would like to use it over other expensive apps!!

On the note of NDI syphon I’ve come up against an odd issue where video content which snaps out (ie with a stop cue) isn’t removed from a syphon surface - does anyone know if this is an issue in qlab, NDI Syphon or NDI in general? I need to do some more testing to try and work out what’s happening but any thoughts appreciated!

I currently fix it by using a 0.1second fade and stop, but it’s still annoying

Hi Rohan,

NDI is not something we’re able to add immediately (simply due to the technical challenge of doing so), but we are also fans of NDI and want to integrate it.

Thanks Drew. I had ruled out NDISyphon due to some bad experiences in the past but from your link, saw there is an update, so thought give it another go and testing so far seems ok but have had a couple of glitches but not sure yet whether that was NDISyphon or Qlab. Either way thanks for the post, it looks like it might get e out of trouble.

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any news about the NDI implementation/roadmap in Qlab?

Hello Erik

QLab does not have a public roadmap and as such there is no real news.

We remain interested in adding NDI support to QLab!

Best
Sam

I tested with NDI syphon in combination with qLab but the performance wasn't good. I got far better results using OBS to convert Syphon to NDI.
I also would love to have native NDI support (with alpha) for QLab but for now this workaround works ok for me.

A very simple example of use for NDI (I saw you were asking for examples in a thread that I can't find anymore):
Output video to projectors that are far away.
You could use HDMI-SDI converters and long stretches of SDI cable (this is a very safe and widespread solution) but in venues/situations that have NDI-HDMI devices (such as from Birddog or Newtek) then NDI might be preferable to save HDMI output ports. I don't know if it would relieve the graphics card to use NDI instead of physical HDMI ports/adapters, but potentially you could send to 4 or 5 projectors on one dedicated network. I was hoping to do this with three projectors running different video streams. Each projector would be conected by HDMI to an NDI decoder that would appear as an individual video surface (NDI output) in Qlab. This would require only one CAT 6 connection between the computer and a dedicated router.
I have experience of doing this kind of thing with Madmapper and Touch Designer. Setting up the network is a bit of a fiddle the first few times (I'm NOT an IT guy) but once you have done a few events, then setting up with a dedicated router is pretty straight forward.

Hi Technica,

As Sam said before, we don’t have a public roadmap, but we are interested in NDI and agree that it would be a great addition to QLab.

Best,
C

Hi all,

Since we shared a sneak peek of QLab 5 at the USITT conference today, I can now publicly share that yes, QLab 5 will support both NDI input and output.

best,

That’s very exciting news, especially as virtual event production doesn’t seem to be going away entirely.

Will there be other opportunities to sneak a peek at QLab 5?

Hi Chris,

Is there any website where is shared what you revealed in this sneak peek? I'm really curious about it !

This is fantastic news. Can you release information yet on the NDI version (4.x or 5) and wether it will be full NDI or NDI HX?

NDI 5

I do not currently know if we will also expose NDI HX

This is some great news. NDI confirmed for 5!
Could you let us know if alpha is supported? (It's one of the main reason why I currently use qlab->syphon->obs->vmix)

Hi Ruud,

Yes, alpha will be supported for both NDI inputs and outputs.
