I am so desperate to control our church's 01v (not 01v96), via the laptop! I already have the midi connectors on the mixer going to a usb on the laptop. I have Studio Manager and can get Cakewalk as well, but can't figure out how to make the mixer 'obey' the commands... anyone willing to help me out? feel free to touch base via phone or email as well... 4438323711 valdecy...@gmail.com.

thanks in advance.

at this point, I would like to be able to do the basics: control the fader for volumes UP/DOWN for each channel. The Mixer is not recognizing the MIDI signals being sent from the the laptop.

Hi Valdecyr,

It's should be pretty straight forward. I use it in a show and it's was easy to set-up.

How familiar are you with Midi? Midi out of the computer goes in Midi In of the 01V. Do you have anything that indicate that Qlab and the computer is sending data?

Make sure lab and the 01V use the same channel and the receive midi is activated in the 01V.

After that in Qlab you need to use a midi cue and use these parameter.
Message type: Musical midi
Command: Control change
Chanel: Use the same midi channel as the 01V
Control number: 0 (is channel 1 fader)
Value: between 0 and 127 (0=off, 127=full)

in the 01V user guide you can find all the default midi control assignation.

See the attached image. It's does turn on the channel 1 (Control number 28 is the 'on' button for channel 1.)

It's been a while since I used one, but from memory and from the manual:
Several things can easily trip you up on the MIDI settings on the O1V
On the MIDI set-up page (press MIDI button to get to page 1)
As mentioned, make sure you're on the same MIDI channel
(TX ch and RX ch, on the left side of the LCD panel)
Check to be sure that TX and RX are ON for Control Change and Program Change in the MIDI Setup panel (Program change recalls Scenes, Control Change is used for individual parameters such as on/off, fader level, etc for individual mixer channels)
Also, check the PORT setting to be sure it is set on MIDI and not HOST. (the "Link Port" will be set to the opposite of the Port - i.e, you should see "MIDI" under PORT and "HOST" under Link Port)

Also - check that the "ECHO" buttons are off for Program change and Control change, otherwise the MIDI message received on the input will be echoed to the output, which could cause some confusion with QLab receiving midi messages back.

There is a full table of Control Change parameters in the appendix of the manual (the manual is available in PDF from Yamaha's site)
