Hi all,

I should first say that I am NOT a video designer.  I understand basic math of resolutions and aspect ratios...but that's about it.

So.  I'm firing cues from Qlab 2 at a Benq MX812ST short-throw projector with a native resolution of 1024x768.  We've had a couple days of issues where cues set to full-screen would be cut off on the left-hand side.  The test pattern generated by the projector shows the full 1024x768 perfectly, but an identically-sized test pattern JPG fired from QLab is vertically correct and full-sized but horizontally, it is a) cut off on the left-hand side, b) centered to the left of the projector's natural center, and c) doesn't reach to the right-hand limit of the projector.  Re-doing the image in custom geometry and moving it to the right by, say, 100px shifts the image, but then starts cutting off the image on the right hand side.  Moving the arrangement in the Display Settings window has no effect.

It seems, in my untrained vernacular, like the computer thinks the projector is in a different "place" than it is?  Thoughts?

Video shifted to one side can sometimes be a symptom of a bad VGA cable. One of the first things I would check.

It sounds to me like the horizontal shift on the projector. Try setting it back to its defaults in the menus. It's quite common when people have been playing with the image settings!

Hi Alex,

I was going to say check the origin in the workspace preferences, but that wouldn't influence full screen videos. This seems like there may be something odd going on down-stream of QLab...

Hey there,

I have an MX812ST hanging in my house as my test machine and have never seen this behavior from it. It's also not something I think QLab could do, so I tend to look at the link between the two. It feels like the Mac is not seeing your projector properly.

So if I'm reading this right...

- You started working in Full Screen instead of Custom Geometry

- The image is also off center to the left side of the projection

- Attempting to correct with Custom Geometry revealed that the total image sent to the projector is too wide

Questions:

- Have you seen these particular files displayed properly before?

- In the Video Patch, is QLab displaying the MX812ST, or some other option like VGA 800x600?

- What kind of Mac are you using and how is the video connected?

- Is there anything in line between the Mac and the BenQ besides cable?

- Have you looked at the Display Settings for the BenQ in Systems Settings and seen that it thinks it is 1024x768?

Did anybody ever find a solution to this problem? I'm having it now. I'd like to recenter the image manually to solve the clipping issue but those options are greyed out.

Hi Sky,

Which options are grayed out?  I’m not quite sure I understand the trouble you’re having.

By any chance do you have the mode of your video cue to Full Screen?  It’s an option in the Settings tab.  That might account for what you are seeing.  It would also prevent you from modifying the Translation settings to center the image.  I can’t be sure but that’s what’s ringing a bell with me.

Can you send me the test pattern file and I can take a look at it here?

Hope I can help!

Thank you Mike! I actually got it figured out: You can’t reposition the screen without the full version (which I purchased), but when it was still not positioning correctly I just reset the computer and now everything is fine. 😄
