Dear Lucas & dear German-speaking Qiqo-Community-members,

I want to propose a change for the translation of the first big button on Qiqo-Landingpage:
"Sign in to RSVP or participate"

German translation is currently: "Melde dich an, um dich anzumelden oder teilzunehmen"

Since "RSVP" is not really a thing in German it's a little tricky to translate easily. But have twice "Melde dich an & anmelden" directly after another just doesn't look and sound good!

I suggest to rephrase it to "Melde dich an, um dich zu registrieren oder teilzunehmen"

I'm not sur if "register" is the upmost best alternative, but I could way better live with it. If any of you have better proposals, I would be happy to hear them!

I don't know, what is the best procedure to go about this translation, since the current translation may be prefered from other users? (That's why I write the mail here to allow for some brief discussion). Otherwise I understand that we should write proposals in the google doc and mark it yellow. I have done that.

I would also be fine for now, if we could change it manually in the CSS of our event landing page. @Lucas, may you please provide us with the piece of code to adapt the text of the button?

Thanks already to everyone - Greetz Friedrich

Dear all,

It might be that a long time ago I translated everything. If better ideas are around - absolutely - please adopt.

I agree the whole rsvp doesn’t exist in German language.

Greetings
Anna Caroline

I agree. The German translates back into English as ‘Sign in (in order) to Sign in or Participate’, so yes definitely needs to change.

However, even the original English isn’t very clear either (or at least British English). RSVP is short for the French répondez s'il vous plaît, which means ‘please reply’, and is used to ask people to reply to a specific invitation; but in QiqoChat it is used even if there is no invitation, or even if people are not necessarilly replying.  What is intended is ‘sign up’ or register (for event).

So ‘Sign in to sign up or participate’?  mmm??? Or ‘Log in to sign up or participate’, or ‘Log in to register or join’ …. ??? (register is also confusing as it could be register to an event or register for an account).

Fun and games with language.  Maybe the German would have a better chance if the English were right in the first place.  Any ideas for a better English version?  RSVP here (😊) (no ‘please’, that’s included in the SVP!).

Hi Everyone,

Thank you everyone for pointing out that we should change this language.  I have removed "RSVP" from the English version of the instructions.
  • I changed the English from "Sign in to RSVP or Participate" to "Sign in to Register or Participate".
  • I have changed "Event RSVP Page" to "Event Homepage".
In German, we'll go with "Anmelden zum Registrieren" as suggested by Friedrich.
There's also "Click to Register" which we are changing to "Bitte hier zum Registrieren klicken".

If you would like to review the translations in your language, here is the Google Sheet of all translations.  Please email me and I'll give you edit access to it.  Highlight any changes in yellow, and write to sup...@qiqochat.com when the translations are ready.

For any work you do to improve the translations, we will give you a credit of $125/hour for your next Qiqo event - please request it by adding a comment to your next invoice.

Thank you for your continued feedback and suggestions to make the platform better.

Thanks for bringing it up, it’s been a bit confusing for us here in Sweden too 😊

Funny that some “things” can just live on until someone questions it.

Thanks!

And thanks Lucas for always picking up and enjoying the collective wisdom around you 😊

Thomas
