Hi everyone,

I'm new in this group. My name is Bosmat, and I'm a product manager at speedb.

We forked Facebook's RocksDB key-value store to add more features and community support. Our fork is called, unsurprisingly, Speedb: https://github.com/speedb-io/speedb

The core product is open-source and free and we are offering support and custom features to enterprise clients.

The background for our fork is that many people are using RocksDB but aren't getting enough support from the community or from Facebook. Opened issues remain unanswered and pull requests remain unmerged. There's considerable divergence between Facebook's vision for RocksDB and the features and bug fixes desired by the community.

I want to grow the usage and open-source community around Speedb. It would be very helpful for me if you could give me feedback about our project. Feel free to reply right here in this thread so we could have a discussion.

Here are some things I'd like to know (you don't have to answer these specifically, any feedback will do):
  • Do you use any key-value store? If so, which one?
  • Assuming you use one, or you'd consider using one, then looking at https://github.com/speedb-io/speedb , does it look like a key-value store you'd want to use? Is there anything you see on our GitHub page (or elsewhere) that make you more likely or less likely to use Speedb?
  • Will that be interesting for you to have a python wrapper for Speedb?
  • Do you have ideas for how we could reach more potential users for Speedb?
  • Any other feedback or thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Bosmat

Hi Bosmat.

I saw that you have 11,665 commits. How many commits are from FB and how many are yours? I'm just curious.

When did you fork this repository and when did FB start working on it?

Thanks,
Uri Rodberg, Speedy Net.

Hi Uri,
Rocksdb has started in 2012.
We published the initial open source release last October.
We are constantly rebasing Speedb on latest Rocksdb so it includes all the benefits of these 2 repos so it's quite difficult to say the exact number.

Thanks,
Bosmat
