radioButton selection crashes maya

The radioButton command with the "edit" and "select" flags results in a crash; example for a radio button named "myradio" (assuming it exists in an open window)

import maya.cmds as cmds
cmds.radioButton("myradio",edit=True,select=True)

The above command attempts to save the current scene and ultimately results in a maya crash. Some of my friends have seen this error, but I can't seem to find any mention of it online.

Anybody have any thoughts or workarounds?

Is it a specific version of Maya that produces this crash? I tried it in 2014 on linux and didn't reproduce it.
