PyMEL to OpenMaya?

Hey folks,

Apologies if this is a silly question but does anybody know if I can instantiate an OpenMaya MDagPath (or similar) object using a pymel object's __apimdagpath__() (or equivalent) attribute? I was looking for a short-hand way of creating the api objects quickly and pymel -> OpenMaya seemed like an easy way if that's possible at all.
