Dear all:

I'm new to the PyPSA-Earth, and I follow the step of document to build the tutorial model. When I finished the configuration set-up and try use the command 'snakemake' to run the model.  It shows me an error:

"UnicodeDecodeError in file ....\pypsa-earth\Snakefile, line 15:
'cp950' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 2682: illegal multibyte sequence"

Any help will be very appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    Liu

Hi Liu,

The CI (continous integration) test, which is tested on the tutorial, is passing.
I can't reproduce the error. There is likely smt wrong with the installation.
Also to run the workflow you need to remove the `--dryrun` part.
What OS do you work on?

Recommended first steps:
1) Remove pypsa-earth environment:
conda env remove -n pypsa-earth

2) reinstall it with conda (steps are described in the tutorial)

3) If error still persist type in the terminal  `conda list` and share the content with us.

Best wishes,

Max

Hi Max,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply during the holidays.

The OS is win10.
As suggested I remove  pypsa-earth environment and reinstall it as the steps described in these page:
https://pypsa-earth.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html
https://pypsa-earth.readthedocs.io/en/latest/short_tutorial.html

But it can't work, the error still persist. (P1)
I attach the package-list file below.(list.txt)

In addition, I did some tests.
According to the error message,
I try simply import "powerplantmatching" package and it shows me the same error too.(P2)

Is this a coincidence?

Hi Liu,

Weird error. Could you try running the stuff on WSL (windows Subsystem for Linux): https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install

If it still doesn’t work could you send your config.yaml as well.
