Hi all,

Pyo community is growing up every day,  I really believe it's the best libre toolbox for computer music works and research at the moment, and I think it will have a great future, thanks Olivier for that !
In this way I was wondering if moving these discussions on another hub wouldn't be fruitful. The first reason is to not use Google (and maybe allowing non Google users to come), the second is to have a better organized place (There are almost 1000 topics now on this group).

I was thinking about 2 ways for doing such a thing:

-The first would be to create a forum. Maybe not the simplest, personnally I never did that, it certainly demands time to invest and to manage it.
-The second would be a Stack Exchange, the google group frame looks more like that: very specific questions and direct answers, no mumbo jumbo.

I think the stack exchange would be a good solution as it's not necessary to have many separated topics as in a standard forum. It's also easier to create and maintain. The only bad thing I see is the hierachic system of Stack Exchange ( with points and reputation), but I think it's minor.
A last thing which wuld be very important if we would have to transfer this forum would be to import all the past Q & A of this group.

So what you all think about that ?  Tell here what you think about that and if you have other suggestions I could have forgot.

Personnally it doesn't bother me to manage a Stack Exchange, creating a forum is another thing ( or maybe with the help of somebody).

Cheers, and excuse my english.

Hi Dennis and all,

I think your idea is good and would be happy to help any way I can. I'm willing to help moderate a stack exchange or even a forum, though, a forum, as you write, is a more involved process, both to set up and to maintain. Still, I'd be happy to assist. Being an open source software, anyone can take the initiative and start something like this, still I'd like to get Olivier's opinion.

Cheers,
Alexandros

Hello,

As the community is small, I would try and avoid to split it over several platforms. And as most relevant answers come from Olivier anyway, I think we should stick to whatever discussion platform he likes best.

Just my 2¢...

Cheers,

Matthieu

In any case, it is better to choose a more friendly environment for the conversation. At the moment, this is a good option:

https://www.discourse.org/

It is worth noting the python code highlighting, here is an example of how it looks in a real conversation.

Hi everyone,

It is good to see that people care about conversation/q&a about pyo!

As far as I'm concern, the little amount of time I have these days to work on pyo, I'd rather put it on fixing bugs and adding features instead of creating and managing a new platform... That being said, I'll be glad to answer any questions on pyo/dsp/general programming on whichever platform it has been asked, I just don't want to own it!

Cheers,

Olivier

Thks all for your answers and suggestions,

It's true that the Pyo community is small compared to other, I didn't know about discourse.org and it seems appropriated, probably with less hierarchical constraints than a Stack Exchange.

@Olivier: we just needed your point of view, we'll care about managing another platform for sure !

One thing I mentionned above in the case we want to transfer the discussion is the problem of moving the q&a form here to the other one (I can work on it).

Hi all,

Just to say that  I asked to disourse team to know about a migration. Unless we do it it would have a huge cost(a few k$), so the other option is to host it ourselves. It's possible with a cloud but I don't have the knowledge for that. I would be very happy to help someone in such a task, just I don't have much time at the moment (my girlfriend is pregnant ad it will be soon, etc). In any case it's not urgent, but this is in a corner of my head.
