Routing DAW output into pyo

Hi All,

I'm interested in routing the audio from my DAW (where I have all my favorite virtual instruments and effects) into pyo for further processing in real-time with minimal latency (I still want to be able to monitor in pyo).

Before I wander down the rabbit hole of trying things like Jack or SoundFlower or VB-Audio Cable, has anyone accomplished this already? Is there a straightforward way to do it?

Right now I use Reaper, both on Mac and Windows 10, so I'd want solutions for both OS's, and for other DAWs (I also use GarageBand sometimes).

I'm looking to keep them separate for right now, I'd rather not have to make a VST. The easiest thing I've found on macOS is BlackHole from Existential Audio. I'll have to find something similar on Windows. There's some slight latency from Blackhole, but it's not noticeable if you make a Multi-Output with your USB Audio interface and BlackHole both checked. I'm just using the 2 ch version of BlackHole for now, by the way.

On MacOS, you can also try Loopback!

Still haven't found a good solution on Windows 10. I have an idea, and I wanted to get some feedback from the group.

I want to try to use ReaStream (scroll down or CTRL+F to see description) to send the audio to localhost, and then use that audio stream as a PYO input. It looks like someone was able to accomplish that with pyaudio, and I'm wondering what the technical hurdles would be to do that in PYO.
