Hey folks, we've had a couple requests by students to apply for GSoC 2017 so I've added our name to the list of projects at http://python-gsoc.org under the PSF. Bert (x58) and I (raydeo) on #pyramid are available to chat about ideas, and we welcome anyone else who may want to act as a student or mentor. Our ideas page is here:

https://github.com/Pylons/pyramid/wiki/GSoC-2017

The next deadline is to update that page with project ideas by early March. It would help if students themselves offered some potential projects they're interested in working through this summer.

Now that the PSF has been accepted into GSoC they are being more stringent on what projects they put on their page, so we've been removed temporarily until we come up with some more ideas. I haven't seen a lot of activity here and as such if things continue as they are we won't be able to do a GSoC project.

I'd say that colander, waitress, webob, pyramid and the pyramid_debugtoolbar are primary targets for GSoC projects with deform as a secondary, just by looking at the mentors we have on board.

Below are some ideas from GSoC 2012 which may whet the appetite.

Anyway, this is a call to drop thoughts here or on #pyramid so we can consider them for actual projects. Also if there's a project you're particularly interested in, just start chatting with us and we can probably figure something out.

It might make sense to group most of those WebOb bulletpoints (save the tests & last one) into a single "WebOb Upgrades" project.

Looking at some of the past Python accepted projects (https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/archive/2016/projects/), the accepted projects tend to be a widespread audience and/or a deep dive into the internals of something.

I think rewriting the tests and the last webob bulletpoint might be very attractive to GSOC.

The general topics of Performance, Pluggability, and Authentication might be attractive too.
