"pyinstaller setup.py" produces nothing in \dist except \setup ??

After copious screen messages, pyinstaller produced nothing in \dist except \setup.  There is no executable.  I was expecting cacscan.exe, a simple file scanner to extract binary data from a known file and outputting it to a text file, also of a known name.  There are no prompts of the user, and no command line arguments in cacscan.py, it is one step up from "hello world".
