Hi all,
We’ll have another telecon this coming Monday, July 28th at the usual 9 AM MT | 11 AM ET | 15 UTC. Dr. Timothy R. Monko from the Biology discipline will present to the group a variation of a super cool presentation
I saw him give recently at SciPy 2025 regarding community users and contributions! I highly recommend you all attend this one; it’s not often we have such cross-disciplinary discussions on our telecons. I’m really looking forward to this one! Abstract for
the talk:
Coming from a pure biology background, I found my way into scientific Python through data processing and visualization needs met by Python and the open-source image viewer napari – first as a user, then an
independent plugin author, and now a core team member and community manager. I will share how a welcoming community, open sharing of knowledge, great documentation, and approachable contributions made those transitions possible, and how those strategies can
help other projects grow. I hope to encourage maintainers to lower barriers and empower users, regardless of their background, to joyfully and meaningfully contribute to open-source science.
Thanks,
Julie Barnum
