Dear All,

next quarter (starting March 31st) I am going to teach a 10-week class on py4web at UCSC, and I am going to keep the class material open for all on learn-py4web.github.com
My plan is still a bit fuzzy, but I am considering making about 20 videos covering various topics.  In the actual class, I would give the videos as "assigned watching" and I would then use the class time for discussion and comments.  The class proper (the zoom meetings and homework grading) would be open to UCSC students only, but the videos and material would be open to all.

I am posting it here, just to see if there is some interest, in either watching the videos, or giving good suggestions.
Last year's edition for the class is here: https://sites.google.com/a/ucsc.edu/luca/classes/cmps-183-hypermedia-and-the-web/cse-183-spring-2020 and all the code is also available, you can click on the various lectures and it's also here in bulk (but it likely doesn't make sense without the explanations): https://bitbucket.org/luca_de_alfaro/workspace/projects/PY4WEB

Let me know if you have interest / thoughts / suggestions.

Luca

Luca,
thats perfect. I learned a lot from your lessons in the past and i am still looking from time to time at your examples that i have installed. So i will watch this. Thank you.
As a side issue, there are two interesting developments.
For visualisation, Apache Superset which seems to have the potential to compete against Tableau, Qlik etc. Still i have Vega-Lite and Altair (to create D3) and Matplotlib in mind.
Second Apache druid, which is a column oriented, extremely fast database.
Both are not directly related to py4web. Up to now i am not fully clear on this. But there could be interesting issues/solutions with py4web.
Maybe i should make a separate post so that people are aware.
~Klaus

Thank you for sharing and it sounds like an excellent resource and way to spread the adoption of Py4web.  Very interested

Dear All,

I have started posting the material and lectures on https://learn-py4web.github.io/ .
Let me know if you have feedback!
Also, I readily admit that I am not the greatest YouTuber around, so if you want to contribute better-made versions of some videos, feel free! :-)

Thanks a lot, Luca.

I've already looked at your previous course, and you're not so boring ;-) I'm sure this will keep me happily busy during the Easter holidays at home.

There is also an instruction for the setup with PyCharm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnyNbR4a-sQ
I will give it another try. Ether with Visual Studio Code or PyCharm then i should get it working.
@Luca, I like your Videos. Even when something was not immediately working, you always managed to fix the issue in a few minutes - where i need sometimes hours or longer - and get it working.

Hi Luca, first thanks for the material you are publishing. I have an IoT course (IoT Fundamentals) at the university where I am a professor. We use web2py for application development. I want to switch to py4web. Can I translate your material into Spanish and use it in my course?

Sincerely,

Ricardo

In fact, I mean translating the documents you make for the course. 😉 For the videos, I have to record it from scratch.

Yes Ricardo!  And can you share back?  Many of my students speak Spanish and it would be fun for them to have the lectures also in Spanish!

It occurred to me Ricardo, YouTube has captions.
Rather than re-recording the videos we could just add captions in Spanish would this be faster? I have auto captions in English now.
Or, I could give you the mp4 and you can record the audio in Spanish?
Unless you want to redo the whole video of course, but let me know what you think.

The mp4 file for recording the Spanish audio track is a good option.
