I seem to be unable to install the puppetserver package.

This is a on a fresh Fedora 22 system running on Linode.

The rpm package installs fine.

# dnf install puppet-agent

puppet-agent installs fine.

# dnf install puppetserver
No package puppetserver available.

This package can't be found through a dnf search.

puppet-server exists, but isn't the package I'm looking for. That one is the old rack-based server and isn't recommended anymore.

Any ideas or advice on how to get puppetserver installed?

Thanks!

It appears that only the puppet agent is available for FC22.

It is available for RHEL though...

Thanks Bill.

That works for me.

I ended up using this one:

The documentation on the puppet site is misleading:

I don't understand why the fedora repo doesn't contain the puppetserver package.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Ryan,

We do not have puppetserver packages available for Fedora 22, unfortunately. We are currently focusing on providing puppetserver packages for long-term release platforms. Fedora moves too quickly to fall into this category. We are, however, currently trying to evaluate and streamline our release process to allow us to roll out packages faster. This would allow us to provide server packages for these faster moving platforms. Unfortunately, we're not there yet.

I know that isn't the best answer, but I hope it helps!

Hi Melissa.

Thanks for the explanation! It makes perfect sense now that I understand the reasoning for it.

I think it would be nice for the documentation to reflect that and maybe recommend a workaround similar to what I discovered. Perhaps a note here? https://docs.puppet.com/puppetserver/2.3/install_from_packages.html#quick-start

I now have the puppetserver working and am in the process of migrating over from 3 to 4.

Thanks for your reply!

Take care,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I definitely agree about the update to documentation! We already have a pull request up to add that to the docs, so you should see that update shortly.
